HMRC have confirmed a move away from automatic penalties for Self -Assessment and Real Time Information compliance for payroll duties.

The taxman has announced a more proportionate approach to SME’s and small employers that miss PAYE filing dates.

HMRC have stated they are focusing their approach on serious cases of abuse and persistent non-compliance rather than on small employers trying to get things right.

RTI for small businesses has increased the burden on them to comply to strict rules and this new approach can only be a good move, when SME’s are working hard to comply to the real time information rules.
